Dental and oral implantology have rapidly moved into the mainstream of dentistry in the last ten years in Russia with a phenomenal growth based on rapidly expanding technology, increasing public interest, and the reporting of sound scientific data.

Many options exist to replace missing teeth but only one – dental implants – can provide the feel, function and appearance of natural teeth. They will allow the patient to confidently eat, smile, laugh, talk, play and enjoy all of your regular activities of everyday life without thinking about your teeth.

Dental regular check-ups provide routine preventative care, such as cleanings, dental fillings, extractions and more complicated procedures including restorative surgery such as dental implants. Nowadays dental implants are a permanent solution for tooth loss. Some people feel awkward or embarrassed if they have a tooth loss that leaves a visible space inside of the mouth. Having a dental implant to replace a lost tooth, may help the patient feel better about their smile and improve self-confidence. The main causes of tooth loss should be mentioned including tooth decay, gum disease, or some type of accidental injury which knocks the tooth out of the mouth. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that dental implants may be either partial or complete dentures. Dental implants can be successfully used to replace tooth loss in teenagers, young adults, and older adults. Children who still have baby teeth are not good candidates for dental implants. However, the dentist may recommend that the child have a spacer placed into the lost tooth spot until there is a replacement tooth that appears. This will prevent the teeth from closing in and will allow new room for the new tooth to grow in straight without being crowded by the other teeth.

Resolving the concern and understanding the biological reactions involved has required in-depth scientific inquiry by clinician and scientist has made dental implantology a highly acceptable and predictable treatment modality. Even with some controversies and lack of comprehensive comparison studies, dental implantology is an exciting treatment concept that makes considerable demands upon the surgical, prosthetic, periodontal, and restorative skills of today's practitioners, and on their scientific understanding as well.
